Appeal for probe into Seaforde fly-tipping

21 March 2018

A LOCAL politician has called for an investigation into a fly-tipping incident in Seaforde.

Slieve Croob councillor John Rice has asked Newry, Mourne and Down Council officials to spearhead the probe after he

was contacted by a number of people after rubble was dumped at the junction of the Drumcullan and Bucks Head roads in the village.

Cllr Rice says he has raised the issue with senior council officials who plan to launch an investigation to determine who was responsible.

“It is beyond me why people act with complete disregard for both the environment and the community living in this area,” he continued.

“This type of activity will cost the ratepayers money  as the material has to be removed.

Potentially, the bill could run into the thousands of pounds.”

Cllr Rice said the money could be better spent enhancing public services which are under severe financial pressure at present.

He added: “It is important the individuals responsible for dumping this material in Seaforde know that their actions are not welcome.”
