Mr. Eric Patterson
MR. Eric Hugh Patterson, of The Dairy, 24 Church Street, Downpatrick, was a retired farmer and dairyman, who was a popular and well known member of his community.
Mr. Patterson, who was 76, passed away in Belfast City Hospital.
The youngest of a family of eight, he was born in his Church Street home. He was educated at Down High School after which he worked on the farm until his retirement in 1997.
He enjoyed his garden and looking after his dogs, pigeons and various fowl. He had a great interest in the local community and loved to reminisce about bygone days.
When in good health he worshipped in Down Cathedral. He maintained close links with his extended family and lifelong friends, and often joined them on holidays in sunnier climes.
Mr. Patterson, who was a bachelor, is survived by his sister, Rhoda, sister--in-law Beatrice, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service in Belfast City Hospital on February 16 was conducted by Dean Henry Hull and Canon Neil Cutcliffe, and was followed by interment in Down Cathedral graveyard.
Mr. James Rice
MR. James Rice, who has passed away at his home, 43 Rann Road, Annacloy, was a popular and highly respected man. He was 70.
Mr. Rice, who was retired, enjoyed country music and vintage cars.
Requiem mass was at Holy Family Church, Teconnaught, on February 15. Fr. Pat McKenna officiated.
Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Lily, son Raymond and daughters Monica, Elizabeth, Maureen and Claire.
