Condolences expressed
THREE great Gaels passed away during the past week. I was saddened to learn of the death of Rosina McManus, the former President of the All-Ireland Camogie Association who died suddenly after the Antrim and Derry Ulster Senior Camogie final. Rosina, originally from Kilkeel, was also former Antrim Camogie chairwoman. Tom ‘Nipper’ King the former Kilclief and Drumaness star also sadly passed away last week. My former Newtownbutler and Fermanagh county colleague John ‘Gunner’ O’Keefe also died last week. To the relatives and families and friends of all goes deepest sympathy.
Best wishes to Mallon
BEST wishes for a speedy recovery go to former Down minor full back of last year and Warrenpoint midfielder Ryan ‘Rhino’ Mallon who was attacked and assaulted at a night club in Banbridge on Saturday night. He received a serious left knee injury which puts his chances of playing in the IFC game between Warrenpoint and Clann na Banna is doubt.
Carr wins ban appeal
Down senior football manager Ross Carr has been successful in his appeal against suspension by Croke Park arising out of comments made after the National Football League defeat by Fermanagh about the match referee. However, assistant manager D. J. Kane has had a six month ban imposed following his appearance in the Down dressing room at half-time, while suspended, in the SFC game against Tyrone in Omagh.
Mayobridge beaten
MAYOBRIDGE fell to their first league defeat of the year when they were beaten in St. Patrick’s Park by Kilcoo on Friday night. This certainly opens up the Division 1 league race. League holders An Riocht and Liatroim still occupy the bottom two places. Bryansford are still unbeaten in Division 2 while Downpatrick picked up two more points against Annaclone, but Darragh Cross surprisingly lost at home to Shamrocks. In Division 3 Ardglass march on after beating Saul in their derby game while Glasdrumman lost at Bosco. In Division 4 St. John’s lead after slamming four goals past the Ballykinlar defence.
Cole suspension to stand
DOWN have decided not to appeal the four week suspension imposed by the CCC in Croke Park on full back Martin Cole arising out of an incident caught on television in the Ulster SFC drawn game against Tyrone in Omagh. Martin misses Sunday’s semi final against Armagh, but if Down win he will be eligible for the Ulster final against Fermanagh.

THE East Down GAA Go Games continue on Saturday at four venues. All venues start at 10am.
